On September 27, 2024, the Returning Home Project hosted a significant event to commemorate Truth and Reconciliation Day, which is observed on September 30. In partnership with Beauval Village and Recreation, the event included a community walk to honor and recognize the survivors of Residential Schools. The walk brought together students, staff, and members of both La Plonge Indian Reserve and the Village of Beauval, uniting the communities in a collective act of remembrance and respect.

Throughout the day, both communities hosted a variety of events, including cultural activities, workshops, and speeches. These sessions provided an opportunity for reflection and healing while strengthening the bonds within the communities. Elders and survivors shared their powerful stories, reminding all attendees of the importance of reconciliation and the ongoing journey toward healing.

This event was a testament to the resilience and strength of Indigenous peoples, and the Returning Home Project is proud to have played a role in supporting these efforts. As we continue our work in reconciliation, we honor the survivors of the residential school system and acknowledge the deep impact these experiences have had on their families and communities. Together, we remain committed to fostering understanding, respect, and healing.
